Absence
Lostock Hall Academy is committed to providing your child with a full time, rounded education. Any absence from school during term time hinders pupils’ educational progress. Pupils attend school for 190 days a year and parents and carers must make every attempt to ensure pupils have regular attendance at school.
Whilst any absence during term time is discouraged we do understand that in certain cases it may be a necessity. The school is prepared to allow one holiday a year of up to 10 days but this is dependent on circumstances and current attendance. Parents and carers may use the following form to request holiday leave, stating the reasons why the absence cannot be taken at any other time. The request must be returned to school no later than 28 working days before the absence is due to commence.
Please bear in mind that when a holiday request is submitted, your child’s current level of attendance is checked and may be the deciding factor in school agreeing to the leave. Parents and carers will be notified of our decision in writing no less than 10 days before your holiday is due to commence. If your request is for more than 10 days holiday or is for an extended period, you will be contacted by telephone to discuss your request further.
REQUESTS FOR HOLIDAY LEAVE DURING EXAM TIMES WILL NOT BE AUTHORISED.
If an absence is not agreed by the school, and you subsequently take your child out of school for the requested period, please be aware that you may be liable for a fixed penalty fine under sections 444 of the Education Act 1996.
