Intake – Frequently Asked Questions
In additon to the questions in the My New School booklet)
How much money does my child need for sampler day?
About £2.50 should buy a substantial lunch.
You may wish to provide extra for a snack at break (snacks are usually around 50p).
What equipment is needed for sampler day?
Pen, pencil, eraser, ruler should suffice.
There will be no P.E lessons so kit is not required.
What should my child wear on sampler day?
Full primary school uniform, no jewellery, no make up, no trainers.
What is the timetable for sampler day?
Arrive at 8.40am, to depart around 2.50-3pm.
Tutorial lesson 1, 3 more lessons, then question time.
When can I collect my uniform?
On New Intake Evening, preferably, but the school will be open during the holidays at certain times for uniform. See pack for dates.
Who do I contact if I need to give you information about my child’s needs?
(SEN, personnal issues etc.)
Contact school and ask for the Transition Manager or the SENCO, who will then be able to arrange a meeting or point you in the correct direction.
What do I do if I am entitled to free school meals?
You must apply to the LEA before your child begins.
Forms are available from the local education officer or from school.
Can I buy uniform items throughout the year, rather than buy everything at the start
of the year?
Obviously your child will need their pullover, monogrammed skirt or trousers (for girls), PE kit, and tie (for boys), but optional items can be bought at any time. The school always has a supply of uniform, should it be needed throughout the year.
I am worried that my child will not know anyone on Sampler Day. They are the only pupil from their primary school. How do I know they’ll be okay?
All the pupils are encouraged to look out for pupils who are on their own and make them welcome. We also have an excellent system of Form Prefects, who will be on hand all day, and for the whole of year 7 to act as buddies for year 7.
