Celebrating learning and achievement
Over the years, we have gone from strength to strength and we aim to provide the best possible education for our students.
Personal Curriculum
We provide a broad, balanced education and the curriculum is designed to ensure that all our students are challenged and extended to achieve their maximum potential.
Key Stage 3
All students in year 7 – 9 follow the National Curriculum which means they study English, Maths, Science, Information Communication Technology, French/Spanish (the most able linguists study a second language), Art and Design, Music, Drama and Dance, History, Geography, Religious Education, Physical Education and Social, Personal and Citizenship Education.
Key Stage 4
In years 10 and 11 students have greater choice and are able to choose pathways that best meet the needs of the individual learner. This includes work-related learning and a range of GCSE and Vocational GCSE’s. Some students study both at school and in local business or colleges. The curriculum allows students to study the English Baccalaureate.
“The strong and collaborative work relationships between teachers and students contribute enormously to students’ good behaviour, attitudes to learning and their enjoyment of school life.”
- Ofsted
We have been awarded Arts Council England Artsmark Gold Award for our outstanding provision.
Key aspects of our work in the Arts include:
• Lostock Hall Academy staff delivering Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts workshops for students and staff in our partner primary schools.
• An Artist in Residence and gallery visits programme to enrich the learning opportunities of our students, including poets, visual artists, graphic designers, musicians, dancers, actors and technical staff.
• Opportunities for all students to attend extra-curricular arts activities and workshops, including the opportunity to take the nationally accredited ‘Arts Award’.
• Opportunities for students to produce art work for the community and to exhibit and perform within the wider community.
Curriculum Enrichment
We offer a wide range of sports, arts and study support activities to enhance the formal curriculum. This also includes opportunities to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, outdoor activities, skiing and visits to France, Spain, Poland and China.
“The students’ willingness to take on extra responsibility is impressive. Through their regular involvement in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and school clubs, they develop as mature and responsible individuals.” - Ofsted |
