Welcome to Design Technology. We specialise in the delivery of Food Technology, Product Design, Resistant Materials and Textile Technology at KS3. In KS4 pupils opt to Food Technology, Product Design, Resistant Materials and Art and Design Textile Design.

KS3
KS3 Design Technology at LHCHS in Year 7 consists of two lessons a week on a 9 - 10 week rotation. Areas include Product Design, Food Technology, Resistant Materials and Textile Technology. In Year 8 pupils study Technology for one period a week on a 9 - 10 week rotation. At the end of Year 8 pupils choose two subjects which they wish to study in Year 9 – a mini option. This consists of one lesson a week for 20 weeks. CAD/CAM is taught as an integral part of the KS3 curriculum when appropriate.

All subjects provide opportunities for pupils to develop their capability through combining designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding to create quality products.

Project Costs
KS3
To enable us to offer high quality projects at Key Stage 3 we ask that pupils make a small contribution towards materials.
£1.00 per project in Food, Product Design, Resistant Materials and Textiles. Some lessons in Food Technology will also require pupils to bring in some of their own choice of ingredients.
KS4
In Year 10 pupils are asked to make a small contribution towards materials. Pupils in Year 11 are required to provide or cover the cost of materials required to make their GCSE projects.
