Career Implications
GCSE History is a valued qualification in the eyes of both employers and Colleges/Universities of Higher Education. A GCSE in History demonstrates that the individual has acquired the skills needed to comprehend, analyse, interpret and evaluate varying sources of information and communicate the findings effectively; the basic function of any form of employment.
With the introduction of the English Baccalaureate, a GCSE in History has become more valuable to have as it is one of the five qualifications that is required to be held to obtain the EBacc accreditation. For the individual considering higher education, possession of the EBacc will be a major advantage in securing a place on a course as numbers are reduced.
A number of examination boards comment in their literature that a GCSE in History supports both AS and A Level courses such as English Literature and Art. Likewise there are many careers in which the analysis and evaluation of the written word or of events is important. Careers in which GCSE History and a higher qualification in History are highly regarded include:
- Accountancy
- Archivist
- Armed Forces
- Banking
- Civil service
- Politics
- Journalism
- Law
- Police
- Television/Media
- Teaching
