ICT & Business Studies

The ICT and Business department aim to help pupils to achieve to the best of their ability.  We have a dedicated team of specialist teaching staff who work hard to ensure that pupils’ experience of ICT and Business is positive and productive.

ICT & Business Department Aims

  • To help pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding in a wide range of business contexts and information communication technology.
  • To encourage pupils to work hard and to their own best standards and to foster high expectations of pupils enabling them to experience success.
  • To create a supportive environment where effort and achievement are valued and in which pupils learn to work both independently and in groups and thus become caring, responsible and tolerant, respecting themselves and other people. 
  • To widen and deepen the pupils' range of experience so that when they leave school they have a firm foundation for future development in business education or employment.

ICT & Business Department Objectives

  • To teach materials laid down in the AQA’s published Business & Communication systems Syllabus, AQA Functional Skills in ICT Level 2 and Edexcel Double & Single ICT Syllabi, while conforming to the aims of the school and the Business Department.
  • To encourage pupils to collect information appropriate to the tasks set through desk and primary research and presenting it in an appropriate way.
  • To develop analytical skills and organise material collected in order to apply it to the problem set using relevant technology, concepts, techniques and language.
  • To help pupils to develop their ability to evaluate data and to make informed judgments in a wide range of business contexts.
  • To develop pupils abilities to use computers competently and accurately, in preparation for computer exam.
  • To develop the skills of communication, numeracy and literacy and to encourage pupils to present written work neatly and accurately.
  • To develop individual study skills both within and outside the classroom.
  • To develop interpersonal skills through group work activity.
  • To develop recognition of the importance of completing work in an agreed time and to meet deadlines set.
  • To encourage pupils to achieve attainment targets set.
