Term 1.1
Debating Citizenship
Issues
Pupils study, explore and debate issues relating to human rights, government & politics and diversity. This is an assessed unit of work, contributing towards the pupils’ attainment level for Citizenship.
Term 1.2
Active Citizenship
Pupils learn what it means to be an active citizen within their local, national and international communities. Tutor groups then plan and carry out an Active Citizenship project. The skills of active participation and communication are assessed, as part of the department’s system for monitoring progress in Citizenship skills.
Term 2.1
Careers and Options
Pupils are given opportunity to explore a wealth of careers and consider which careers suit their strengths and preferences. Pupils also consider how their personal preferences, strengths and learning styles may apply to key stage 4 option choices. Pupils are given detailed guidance on how to manage important decisions.
Term 2.2
Alcohol and SRE
Through the use of case studies and interviews pupils learn about the dangers of binge drinking. The influence of alcohol in young sexual relationships is a focus of learning in this unit. Therefore, social skills of assertiveness and independence are explicitly taught within this topic.
Further SRE learning that takes place within this term includes the topics of sexually transmitted diseases and contraception.
Term 3
Finance and Enterprise Education
Pupils learn financial capability and enterprise skills whilst working on a tutor group project which requires pupils to plan, develop and run their own stalls at the Academy’s Summer Enterprise Fayre.
