Mathematics GCSE

In Years 10 and 11 pupils are grouped into 6 sets based on ability. Pupils in Year 10 attend 4 maths lessons per week and 3 lessons in Year 11. They will receive up to 2 pieces of homework per week.

Pupils follow the Edexcel GCSE B Specification which is unitised. The specification builds on the content, knowledge and skills developed at Key Stage 3. During Key Stage 4 pupils are encouraged to take increased responsibility for their studies. They will become fluent in making the connections between the different areas of Mathematics and its application in the world around them. Pupils will learn the importance of precision and rigour and those studying at a higher level will begin to understand the importance of proof in Mathematics.
